Pictures from walking around today

I think the family across the way makes these giant globes (I don't know what they call them) that are used in fiestas and parades. They're actually really heavy and men carry them and sort of compete to dance the longest with them. This one looks like it says PIMP, but it actually says PIMPI hearts JUANA.



L and I walked down to the Zocalo tonight and there were all these kids in front of the Cathedral having a ball heaving these huge cylindrical balloons in the air and then running after them as they floated down. We saw one balloon start to get stuck in one of the alcoves of the Cathedral facade, which the children thought was hilarious!




And women selling candied apples... I'm still not really eating food on the street, but these looked tasty.


This is a detail of one of the walls of Santo Domingo, which I find endlessly visually fascinating.
